About the game

A free RPG for Android and Windows in the spirit of the old online games: a shipwreck, an island that teaches you to survive, a harbour city and a sealed crypt.

Remember the old online RPGs like Tibia — when every step across the map could end in a fight and a new sword took a week to find? Ancient Warriors: Order of the Seal grew out of that very love. The same isometric camera, click-to-move, unhurried combat and a backpack that gets heavier with every find. Except you do not share this world with a thousand other players — it is all yours, and you can play it without an internet connection.

Where it begins

The ship Dawn never made port: a storm threw her onto the reefs of the island of Kaldar. You come to on wet sand with no weapon, no armour and not a coin to your name. Nearby a handful of survivors keep a fire going, looters prowl the shore, the Order’s old lighthouse stands dark on the cape, and up in the mountains Chief Grum rules his savages.

Kaldar is an island that teaches. While you survive it, you pick up everything along the way: how to hold a weapon, how to eat and heal, how to shoot from a distance and how to light your way through the caves. Reach level eight, take the key from Grum, and Ketil the boatman will row you to the mainland. There is no coming back.

The city and the crypt

On the mainland waits Riverhollow — a harbour city on a river mouth, with stout walls, shops and a temple. Under the old cemetery outside the north gate lies the Crypt. A hundred years ago the Order of the Seal sealed it — and walled its own last master in with the dead. He is still down there, and all these years he has been patiently unpicking the seal from inside. What to do about it, Olvir the herbalist on the temple steps will tell you — if you are ready to listen.

Where you can go

Beyond the city walls a big world opens up. The steppe, where the barbarian tribes have pitched their camps. The ruins of the Ashen Spire on the western cape, where the master’s apprentices have dug in. The renegades’ castle on the coast. The dwarven mines in the northern mountains and the elven woods with a cellar under their fortress. And in the north-east the necropolis, which you had better not visit too early. Who lives where, and at what level, is in World and maps.

Who to play

The knight takes blows on his shield and stands where others fall. The mage burns a crowd of foes before it can reach him. The ranger strikes with his bow and keeps his distance. The druid binds his enemies in ice, heals, and calls allies from the woods to his side.

Nothing is forbidden: a mage may pick up a sword and a knight a bow. But skills grow with use, and every vocation has its own pace. A knight keeps honing his sword the whole game through, while a mage hits his ceiling after the first few blows. See the vocations for the details.

What to hunt for

Swords, axes, maces, bows and crossbows, staves and spellbooks, armour, amulets and rings — every piece has its level, so there is always something better ahead. And the best of it is not sold at all: it comes off fallen bosses. Add to that each vocation’s spells, errands from the people of the island and the city, day and night (a game day lasts one real hour) and a torch you will not want to be without underground.

Where to play

Ancient Warriors is free on Android (with ads) and on Windows (no ads). It is one and the same game: the same world, the same quests and nothing to buy. Saves are kept on your device, and on a phone they can also live in Google Play Games. The links are on Download the game.

What comes next

The next big goal is an online version: the same world, but shared, with other heroes walking beside yours. If you enjoy the game and would like that to happen sooner, have a look at Support the project.
