Questions and answers

What the game costs, whether it needs the internet, where your saves live and how to reach the developer — short answers to the questions asked most.

How much does the game cost?

Nothing. On Android the game is free and shows full-screen ads: between maps and now and then at a quiet moment, but never in a fight and never on Kaldar. On Windows it is free too, with no ads at all. It is the same game.

How do I install the game on Windows?

Download the archive from Download the game, unpack it into any folder and run ancient-warriors.exe — there is nothing to install. If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”, click “More info”, then “Run anyway”: that is how Windows greets programs not signed with a paid developer certificate.

Do I need the internet?

No. On Windows the game opens no network connection of its own at all. On a phone the network is needed only by the ads and by cloud saves in Google Play Games — you can play without it.

Is there an account, a password or multiplayer?

No. The game is single-player, and a device holds one profile with no sign-in: up to four heroes live on it. An extended online version built on this game is the next goal of its development, and you can support it.

Where are my saves kept?

On your device. On Windows in %APPDATA%\AncientWarriors, which uninstalling leaves in place. To keep a backup or move your heroes to another computer, copy that folder while the game is closed. On a phone the heroes live in the app’s own storage; sign in to Google Play Games and a copy is kept in your Google account and comes back on a new phone.

How do I leave Kaldar?

You need level eight and Chief Grum’s key — it is won in the tutorial’s last step. Then Ketil the boatman at the pier rows you to the mainland. It is a one-way trip: there is no going back to the island, so the game asks once more before you sail.

Why can’t I put an item on?

Two reasons. Wands, staves, spellbooks and caster garb are for mages and druids only. And many items carry a level requirement — it is on the item’s card in the game and in the item library.

Why do the monsters not come back?

A creature does not return while you are near the place it appears (closer than eight cells). Walk away and the camp starts to fill again, one creature at a time.

How do I change the language?

In the settings — from the main menu or the game menu. There are nine: English, Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, German, French and Turkish. On the first start the game takes the device’s language.

How do I turn off personalised ads?

On a phone the settings carry “Ad privacy”, which reopens Google’s consent form. See the privacy policy for the rest.

How can I support the development?

With a donation in USDT on the Tron network (TRC20): the address, a QR code and how to send it from an exchange or a wallet are on Support the project. Donations fund the game and an extended online version built on it. A donation is a voluntary gift: it unlocks nothing in the game, which stays the same for everyone.

How do I reach the developer?

Write to lusiy321@gmail.com — the address of the developer, Volodymyr Lysenko; more about him and how the game was made is on The developer. Bug reports can also go to the Issues of the game’s builds repository on GitHub (you need a GitHub account).
